Phoenix art scene

After forcing the family through a furniture design review last weekend, we thought an art visit would fit. A work associate commented on the Roosevelt streetart walk. So we checked it out.

The first gallery we wandered into was perihelion arts and the art was definitely not your southwest turquoise art scene. I recomm
end stopping by and saying hi to Amy.

Upcycle living had a installation of their boxcar houses, which is not for hobo's. The inside
looks great, but the outside leaves a little to be desired.

Right across the street was five15, an artist run collective. Currently Henry Bellavia of manshed studios is showing his new collection.

It is a Dali esque rendition inspired by the current financial fallout. I appreciated the faceless bankers, with their top hats, and indifference to the world. My favorite was several faceless bankers around a desert campfire, in an all jug band. They all had a certain stiffness you would see of a BP CEO trying to show himself as a common man.

Down the street half another block was Eye Lounge
Danielle D'Aleo in the west room provided "We could be dangerous" an on the wall, vinyl stencil that was fun. A bit Aeon Flux and Dr Suess.

In the east room Kristin Bauer was showing her collection "White Noise".
Which at first seemed mildly interesting, faded shades of white stenciled letters and words. But Kristin was on hand to answer questions, and not letting on that she was the artist, explained a few of the works in both rooms.
After discovering she was the artist, and most of the painting were about "interviews" with people where she collected the "background noise of their subconscious" and then placed it on the canvas as such, the works took on a much deeper meaning. Especially one where the words stood out "If you can hit it every time, you can make it!" I still wonder who this cognitive portrait was extracted from.

Through the heat and the driving, not to mention getting the whole family together that morning, we were all ready for food, Amy Young from had told us about a great new local scene, "The Duce" Which is next.
